October Respect Life Month
"Every Life: Cherished, Chosen, Sent"

Each October Christians around the world celebrate Respect Life Month to proclaim the immeasurable value of every human person from conception to natural death. It begins each year on Respect Life Sunday, the first Sunday of the month, which this year is October 7. The theme for this year is "Every Life: Cherished, Chosen, Sent”, and highlights the call to build a culture of life as missionary disciples.

Pope John Paul II initiated Respect Life Month in 1972, the year before the Supreme Court legalized abortion in the United States. Since that time, Catholic and Protestant Christians across the country have observed the month of October with special devotions and pro-life activities in order to advance the culture of life.

PLM is encouraging all our Mississippi churches to preach a pro-life message on Sunday, October 7 and then to bring their congregations to the sidewalk in front of Mississippi’s last remaining abortion clinic to participate in Life Chain from 2 to 3 pm that afternoon. (See details in Life Chain article.)

PLM is offering Respect Life bulletin inserts for any church that would like to use them. Contact our office at 601-956-8636 to place your order and we’ll arrange a time to get them to you.

Meet Us At The Fair!

Pro-Life Mississippi goes to the State Fair - Again!
2018 Mississippi State Fair – October 3 through 14, 2018

Undoubtedly the largest educational outreach that PLM sponsors each year occurs while manning our booth at the Mississippi State Fair.

This year the PLM booth has a new, updated look, making it more inviting for visitors to step in and talk with our volunteers. There are new brochures, a new pro-life coloring book, and a computer setup for filling out a volunteer contact form. The booth also features a display area for t-shirts, pro-life jewelry and other items that are available for a suggested donation. All money raised from these items will be applied to keeping a pro-life billboard up in the metro-Jackson area.

Board member Brian Alexander has always enjoyed the conversations he gets to share with fair goers, especially with the teenagers who stop by the booth. “These encounters are often teachable moments about the intrinsic value of every human life, from conception to natural death,” he states. Younger children particularly like holding and examining the baby models that are true-to-life in size and weight for the various weeks of pregnancy.

The fair arrives in Jackson in just a few days and we are actively recruiting volunteers to help work at our display area in the Trade Mart Building. “If you have not worked the booth before and would be worried about volunteering by yourself, don’t be. We will pair you with someone who has worked the booth before,” states PLM President Laura Duran. To sign up to work at the booth, contact the PLM office at 601-956-8636.

Wednesday, September 26 - Sunday, November 4, 2018

Twice a year, in the spring and fall, pro-life communities around the world unite in a peaceful, prayerful witness in front of their local abortion facilities to petition God for an end to legalized abortion. Once again, PLM is helping to coordinate the fall 2018 campaign, under the able direction of Barbara Beavers, the retired director of the Center for Pregnancy Choices.

An opening event was held on Sunday, September 23rd at 2:30 P.M. on the corner of North State Street and Fondren Place, site of Mississippi's only remaining abortion facility. Natalie Brumfield, an inspiring Birmingham, Alabama pro-life activist and writer, was the keynote speaker at the kickoff. There were approximately 90 people in attendance.

The 40 Days for Life committee has tried to assign each of the 40 days to a local church, hoping to have someone praying at the clinic from 7 am until 7 pm. There are still days available for churches to cover. Individuals are also encouraged to come to the clinic to pray, even if their church is not yet participating. If you have never been before, we would like to have one of our “veterans” meet you there for moral support, so please call the PLM office.

Sunday, October 7th

Please join us in a NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER TO END ABORTION.

PLM invites you to join our Life Chain in Jackson, MS at North State Street at Fondren Place (in front of Mississippi’s last remaining abortion clinic), from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

LIFE CHAIN is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing for 60 minutes praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from conception until natural death. Stand with thousands of pro-life individuals throughout the USA and Canada in honor of the millions of babies whose lives have been lost to abortion. Pray for people in crisis situations and for our nations.

You'll be a light in a darkened world as you help put an end to abortion through prayer!

Bring your whole family!

Water, lawn chairs, umbrellas and strollers are welcome and encouraged!

Rain or shine!

We will be providing Life Chain signs for everyone. Signs proclaim "Abortion Kills Children," "Adoption - the Loving Option," "Jesus Forgives & Heals," "Lord, Forgive Us and Our Nation," "Abortion Hurts Women," "Life - the first Inalienable Right," "Pray to End Abortion," "El Aborto Mata Ninos," "El aborto lastima a las Mujeres," and "Pregnant? Need Help? 1-800-712-HELP”

If you don't live in the Jackson area and would like take part in a Life Chain you can go to LifeChain.Net and find the information for the closest Life Chain to your area.

Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children September 8, 2018

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon on the south lawn of the state capitol, about 70 people joined PLM to participate in the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children. PLM president Laura Duran welcomed everyone and gave the crowd a short history of how this memorial event got started. Pastor Tiago Oliveira of Grace Baptist Church Jackson, MS then gave the invocation., after which guitarist Lydia Kluksdahl led everyone in singing "Great are You Lord”. Pastor Thomas Winn of Grace Baptist Church gave a stirring keynote address. After Lydia Kluksdahl led everyone in singing "Holy Spirit You Are Welcome Here”, Laura Duran shared the good news of the birth of one of our babies rescued from abortion by our sidewalk counselors. Pastor Oliveira closed the event with prayer.

President Duran was very pleased with the turnout at the event. “Everyone has commented on how they like the new location we chose for this year’s program. There was plenty of shade and lots of places for people to sit. And we all rejoiced that the weather decided to cooperate with us. It was not too hot and the rain held off until after the event.”
