WHEN:  Thursday, April 21, 2016
WHERE:  First Baptist Church of Jackson, MS
431 North State Street, 39201
Silent Auction:  5:00 PM Banquet: 6:30 PM

Rebecca Kiessling always knew she was adopted, but at 18 she learned that she was conceived out of a brutal rape at knife-point by a serial rapist. Although her birthmother was thrilled to meet her, she did tell her she actually went to two back-alley abortionists and almost aborted her. She backed out of the abortion twice because of fears for her own safety at both illegal “clinics”. Rebecca recalls that, "Like most people, I’d never considered that abortion applied to my life, but once I received this information, all of a sudden I realized that, not only does it apply to my life, but it has to do with my very existence. It was as if I could hear the echoes of all those people who, with the most sympathetic of tones, would say, ‘I’m pro-life - well, except in cases of rape.

Rebecca Kiessling

. . . .' I felt like I was now going to have to justify my own existence, that I would have to prove myself to the world that I shouldn’t have been aborted and that I was worthy of living.”

Today Ms. Kiessling is a family law attorney, blogger, and nationally and internationally recognized pro-life speaker. For obvious reasons, Ms. Kiessling staunchly opposes the rape exception that directly impugns her life and the lives of 32,000 babies conceived from rape every year.  She actively speaks out against the rape exception in Obama care (as well as other legislation, including some “pro-life” measures that grant a rape exception).  She has helped change the hearts of many legislators  and politicians, including Gov. Rick Perry during his presidential campaign, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.  Rebecca has been interviewed by one of her personal heroes, Dr. James Dobson, on his Family Talk radio program along with four other members of the pro-life group Save The 1.

"One of the greatest things I’ve learned is that the rapist is NOT my creator, as some people would have me believe,” declares Ms. Kiessling.  "My value and identity are not established as a 'product of rape', but as a child of God.

The truth is that you don’t have to prove your worth to anyone, and if you really want to know what your value is, all you have to do is look to the Cross — because that’s the price that was paid for your life!  That’s the infinite value that God placed on your life!"

Tickets to the banquet are free, but reservations are required.  An offering will be taken to support the ongoing work of Pro-Life Mississippi.  Underwriters and Table Sponsors are still available until Friday the 15th of April.

MSU Students for Life Group Given Honor of Leading National March for Life 2016

Back in October of 2015, MSU student Anja Scheib contacted the PLM office to ask the board to sponsor a student from the MSU Students for Life chapter to attend the upcoming March for Life 2016 in Washington, DC. When the PLM board approved this request, little did they know the impact their decision would have on the MSU student group.

Described as the largest pro-life rally in the world, the March for Life began in 1974, the year after the infamous Roe v Wade US Supreme Court decision that “legalized” abortion in America was handed down. This annual event brings hundreds of thousands of pro-life supporters to the nation’s capital to peacefully protest the greatest human rights violation of our time, legalized abortion on demand. Over the past 5 years, the attendance at the event has increased from 400,000 to 800,000 people.
As you might remember, in January, Washington D.C. was hit with its worst snow storm in decades. Because of this, many people could not get to the event, thus providing an unexpected, amazing and enriching experience for the MSU pro-life group. They were asked to carry the official Students for Life of America Pro-Life Generation banner at the very front of the march! banner
The MSU Students for Life newsletter gave a recap of their experience at the March:
“(As we gathered for the March, there was a) ‘stand off’ between the pro-life and pro-choice sides of the street. There they witnessed young pro-lifers on their knees praying and post-abortive women sharing their testimonies of grief, while self-proclaimed ‘feminists’ screamed in the faces of pro-life women. One side was full of joyful chant and prayer, while the losing side was full of hate and fake blood-stained pants. Their Culture-of-Death rally held signs reading ‘Abortion on Demand and Without Apology’. Ours read ‘Love Them Both’. Their crowd was (predominantly) aging and male, ours (was) millennial and mostly female. Never have I been more convinced that the tide is TURNING! Abortion is on its way out, my friend!”
“PLM is so proud of the pro-life young people we work with,” stated Dana Chisholm, PLM board member and driving force behind PLM’s efforts to help establish pro-life student groups on Mississippi high school and college campuses. “We are inspired by their idealism and enthusiasm and look forward to providing continued support for Mississippi’s 'pro-life generation’ .” MSU

Billboards Across Mississippi

After reading about the Billboards Across Mississippi campaign in our last newsletter, Pastor Jim Riley of Waynesboro, MS contacted Judy Batson, President of PLM to show her this billboard that churches in the Waynesboro area have underwritten.

“We are excited and appreciative to have the Waynesboro Christian community partner with PLM in putting up our educational pro-life billboards,” stated President Batson. “We hope other groups will follow their example. PLM stands ready to assist any person or group across the state with this effort.”

"Former Planned Parenthood workers have said that the no-show rate for abortion appointments goes as high as 75% when people are peacefully praying outside.
That’s 3 out of 4 moms who never make it to their appointments because of your presence!"

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life Campaign Director

Kickoff Event Wednesday, February 10, 2016

On Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2016 Pro-Life Mississippi launched Jackson’s annual Spring 40 Days for Life campaign with a prayer service on the sidewalk in front of Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the last remaining abortion facility in the state.  Approximately 50 people braved the cold temperature to attend the opening ceremony.  Pastor Jay Barfield of Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Clinton, MS, prayed the invocation.  The keynote speaker, Mavis Buckley of Freedom 517, gave a stirring testimony about healing from her abortion.  Pastor Trey Hammond of Crossroads of Life Church of God, Byram, MS, closed the event with a Benediction prayer.

40 Days for Life began in Bryan-College Station, Texas in 2004, and consists of 40 days of prayer and fasting in shifts outside of a clinic or hospital that performs abortions.  Over the last 12 years it has grown to an international movement involving 25 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, England, Northern Ireland and Denmark.  The original founder, David Bereit, maintains a small national office that coordinates communications and provides training and other resources for the local volunteers.  The office also keeps record of babies known to have been saved during the events as well as clinics that have permanently closed.  To date, 506 babies have been confirmed to have been saved from abortion during the spring 2016 40 Days for Life.  Also this spring, four abortion clinics in the  United States CLOSED their doors for good:  Jacksonville, North Carolina, Augusta, Georgia, Marietta, Georgia, and South Bend, Indiana.

“Jackson has been participating in 40 Days for Life for almost ten years,” stated PLM president Judy Batson.  “By being the visible sign of God’s love for Moms coming to the abortion clinic, we have the opportunity to share this love and hope with them.  Not only have we witnessed many 'turn-aways’, but we have seen Christians who have come to pray be transformed into vibrant pro-life apostles.  The 40 Days campaigns have been a source of revival in our churches.”

Closing Event Sunday, March 20, 2016

Mother Theresa once said, “God didn’t call me to be successful.  He called me to be faithful”.  "Pro-Life Mississippi has been faithful,” said PLM 40 days for Life  coordinator Laura Duran, "and we want to thank all of you who came out during this campaign.  We ask that you continue to come and be faithful with us.”

foot2 2016 Walk 4 Life
Saturday, June 4th

Pro-Life Mississippi's Annual Walk 4 Life
is just around the corner.

Get healthy by taking a four mile walk to help raise awareness for the sanctity of human life and support PLM’s educational outreach ministries. But don’t panic - there is a scheduled break at the two mile halfway mark to catch your breath, drink some water and pray for an end to the injustice of legalized abortion on demand.

This year's walk will be held on Saturday, June 4th, and will again be sponsored by St. Richard's Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. We will meet at St. Richard's Catholic Church located at 1242 Lynnwood Dr, Jackson, MS 39206 at 7:30 a.m. for registration, and the walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. [Walking west on Lynwood Dr., turning left onto Manhattan Rd., then left onto Meadowbrook Rd., right onto Old Canton Rd., right onto Duling St., and left onto N. State St. We will pray at the abortion clinic at 2903 N. State St.,] and then walk back the same route to St. Richard's. There will be a water station at the abortion clinic. We will have a short prayer and release balloons in honor of all the babies who have died there from abortion. The walk is two miles each way for a total of four miles.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three fundraisers. Every walker who turns in $25 in pledges will receive a FREE T-shirt. BRUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED at St. Richard’s Foley Hall for all walkers and workers compliments of the Knights of Columbus. The flyer/pledge sheet can be downloaded at

Biking for Babies Thursday, July 12, 6:00 pm
at St. Richard Catholic Church.
Join us for dinner at the Meet ‘n’ Greet.

For the fifth year in a row, PLM will host the Biking for Babies team as they pedal their way from New Orleans to Memphis. These energetic pro-life young people obtain pledges and donations along their route and donate the proceeds to various pro-life groups, among them PLM. In return, PLM and the Knights of Columbus of St. Richard parish host a meet and greet supper and find lodging for the bikers for the night. The bikers share their inspirational testimonies, biking adventures - and misadventures - at the dinner.

“I am so impressed with these young people,” states pro-life board member Brian Alexander. “They are willing to take time out from their busy lives to fundraise and raise awareness for the pro-life, pro-woman and family-focused ministries taking place at pregnancy resource centers and pro-life organizations across the country. Getting to know them has been a real blessing.”

This year Biking for Babies has made some changes to their previous route. There will be two teams - one leaving from New Orleans and one leaving from Chicago. These teams will then meet in Memphis.

The St. Richard Knights of Columbus will prepare a spaghetti dinner Thursday night July 14. There is no charge for the meal. Come join us and show your support for these heroic pro-life young bikers.

St. Richard church is located at 1242 Lynwood Drive, Jackson.
